The civil war in Syria is a complex issue. The government of Bashar Assad is legitimate. Those groups in opposition to the Assad presidency range from peaceful protestors to outright terrorists. There is little to no solidarity among these opposition groups and any actions aimed at arming them is reckless and irresponsible. The United States should not involve itself in the Syrian civil war by arming rebel groups. Instead the United States should press the United Nations to take action to end the violence through diplomacy. The United States must not involve itself militarily in this conflict either through deployment of troops or providing weapons, ammunition, or other materials of war to any group(s) involved in the present conflict.
