In 8 states, non-religious citizens are still being discriminated against.
In the constitutions of Arkansas, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, citizens who do not believe in a higher power / God cannot hold public office in politics.
In Pennsylvania, atheists and agnostics are allowed to hold office, but theists cannot be disqualified, while non-theists can be.
It is amazing that despite how far we've come in society to attempt equal rights, these eight states still religiously discriminate against non-theists. These unconstitutional prejudices are a violation of the 1st and 14th amendments, and contradicts the separation of church and state.
These issues definitely should receive federal attention and action.
