End Backcountry Permit Fees in the Great Smokey Mountains NP.

Created by D.P. on April 19, 2014

End the GSM NP back country permit fees. The GSM NP implemented a fee or tax on campers and hikers approaching and within the park. Recently it was reported by trail hikers the park system has also started taxing or charging for people to do good Samaritan acts of kindness as well (trail magic). The usage "fees" are viewed as a revenue tax for using our public lands and it is suspected enforcement costs are exceeding the revenues gained. These permit fees also generate public ill-will and resentment against the government and park rangers. Numerous hikers/campers are reportedly by-passing the GSM NP because of these permit "fees".
