Despite the end of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell', transgender service members are still being discharged and transgender people wanting to serve are being turned away. Currently, the Military disqualifies anyone who has had genital surgery of any sort and considers any diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder to be a "disqualifying mental illness". In Canada and the UK, transgender soldiers serve their countries proudly without any problems, if these countries can do it, why are we still lagging behind?
Gender should never be a reason to deny someone the opportunity to serve their nation. If Vice President Biden meant it when he spoke out in favor of transgender rights, then why can't this administration back it up with action?
