Despite the end of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell', transgender service members are still being discharged and those wanting to serve are being turned away. Currently, the Military disqualifies anyone who has had genital surgery of any sort and considers any diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder to be a "disqualifying mental illness". In Canada and the UK, transsexual soldiers serve their countries proudly without any problems, if these countries can do it, why are we still lagging behind?
Gender should not be a reason to ban someone from serving their country or discharge them. This administration has continuously ignored this ongoing discrimination in the military; President Obama, if you are truly an ally to LGBT citizens of this nation, you must move forward to end this policy!
