Insulin, is produced by beta cells within the pancreas. Insulin is needed by the body to turn the food we eat into energy. Those with the autoimmune disease type 1 diabetes, do not create insulin. The type 1 diabetic's pancreas, for reasons not quite clear yet, attacks(and kills) the beta cells that produce the insulin. Thus the type 1 diabetic is required to take shots, either via a needle or an insulin pump, daily to survive. Big pharmacies have been increasing the price of insulin for no reason for years and these last few years they have increased the price almost 300% of what it was back in 2007. Diabetics did not ask for this disease, and if we had a cure we would surely take it. But there is no cure, so we must take insulin. Insulin we can't afford because of the price increase
