We're in a fiscal crisis. Congress is threatening to shut down some of our best federal public services because of our astounding deficit. We must reduce this deficit. Ending the tax cuts for the wealthy will increase revenues by 700 billion dollars and help fight the growing income gap.
Common arguments against expiring the cuts are that they will hurt small businesses (Untrue. Less than 2% of small businesses would be affected) or slow job creation (Untrue. The tax cuts have been in place for 10 years and between 2002 and 2007 employment increased only 1%, and not much better the other years either).
The rich are getting richer at killing the middle class's expense. We need to fight this inequality, and the debt. We can do both of these by expiring the Bush tax cuts.
