Many people oppose capital punishment arguing it's inhumane, or it's not a true deterrent, or the execution won't bring anyone back. While these arguments have merit, they are not the reason behind my objection to capital punishment and this petition. My reason for opposing executions is that no system is infallible. When Casey Anthony narrowly eluded the electric chair for the alleged murder of her daughter many people shouted she deserved death. It seemed like I was the only one who saw their anger as a reason to oppose the death penalty. The angered public decried the justice system as flawed for allowing a murderer to go free. If guilty people slip through, innocent people get caught. Over a hundred men have been exonerated from death row since 1976, despite testimony and evidence.
