This is a straight forward and simple petition. Capital punishment (legal execution by the government as a form of punishment) is a barbaric and outdated practice; one which has no place in our society today. It is about time we remember the fact that we are the leaders of the free world. The rest of the world looks to us for leadership. We lead by example.
Furthermore, the argument that we will have to pay for life long imprisonment is foolish and cowardly. We are not a country that values money over life. We will never become such a country. The end of capital punishment would be one of many necessary steps towards prison reform in the United States.
But even if you don't agree with any of this, you will likely agree that if even one innocent man or woman is executed, we have failed.
