End the Civil War in Syria by increasing financial and diplomatic support for the rebels and imposing a no-fly zone

Created by A.B. on February 02, 2013

For far too long, the world has sat idely-by as Bashar Assad, the leader of Syria, uses his own military to massacre and displace tens of thousands of his own people. The Syrian National Council, an umbrella group that represents the Syrian opposition, has recieved little to no financial, military and diplomatic support from the international community, whose condemnations of Assad and threats to topple his ruthless regime amount to empty rhetoric. The United States has always seen protracted conflicts such as this as an oppurtunity to shape the country and use its influence to strengthen democracy. There is no reason why this should be any different for Syria. A no-fly zone, as well as diplomatic and financial support for the SNC, would excelerate Assad's downfall.
