Far from achieving their objectives, economic sanctions have only brought misery for ordinary Iranians. The poor and middle-class Iranians — whom as the world saw in 2009 are brutally oppressed, and have no say in government policy — are losing their jobs, wealth, and even lives as a direct result of the ongoing economic blockade.
Given the stagnant progress of negotiations, we are concerned that the people of Iran may suffer the effects of protracted economic sanctions. We understand the role that the Iranian regime plays in all this, but see little hope that they would care much about the well-being of their citizens.
We, many of us Iranian-Americans, ask you to address the problem of Iran in a way that does not involve the extended suffering of Iran's civilian population.
