The Common Core program represents exactly what is wrong with the American Education system. The idea of promoting a deeper level of learning in schools across the nation is a sound one. However, it is counterproductive to enforce all schools to have identical curriculum. The United States has historically been a country of innovation and productivity. Our greatest successes as a nation are the result of hard work, creativity, and passion.
Common Core betrays this country's most important values. It encourages conformity and restricts students from pursuing new knowledge. Instead, the education system should be designed to identify students' passions and strengths, The newer generations should be encouraged to excel and to explore new topics, rather than simply meet standard requirements.
