End Corn Subsidies.

Created by M.W. on March 11, 2013

The government has continued a program to subsidize the corn industry and allow farmers to create corn, outweighing the need for the crop. Once the need was outweighed, other uses for corn were found including high fructose corn syrup as a replacement for sugar.

The cost of making corn syrup, including high fructose corn syrup, is expensive unless the corn is subsidized and the cost of using of corn products is decreased.

The use of the corn as a sweetener is has 2 major concerns.

Corn has little, if any nutritional value, depending on the processing procedures used.

Corn is a complex carbohydrate which increases the digestion time. That time suggests long term weight gain and increased health risks for diabetic diseases such as diabetes.
