End the corn subsidy which has fundamentally changed the economics and ecosystem of the Midwest.

Created by J.S. on January 14, 2013

The federal corn subsidy has led to an artificial incentive for farmers to grow corn. The resulting corn surplus had led to fundamental changes of the Midwest. Over fertilization for single crop, non-rotation farming has led to extraordinary fertilizer run-off into the Mississippi River basin that has led to a dead zone on the Gulf of Mexico larger than the BP oil spill. Efforts to get rid of all the excess corn have led to very cheap high fructose corn syrup which is a major cause of obesity and its resultant health problems.
Please end the corn subsidy!
