End Daylight Saving Time

Created by R.C. on March 11, 2013

Daylight Saving Time (DST) was once a valuable method of reducing energy consumption during wartime. Since the 1940s, however, climate control and technology have altered our energy consumption patterns, resulting in higher energy consumption and greater energy costs during Daylight Saving (http://www.nber.org/papers/w14429).

On the Monday following the change to DST, there is a significant rise in automobile accidents, including fatal accidents. The same is true on the Sunday preceding the return to Standard Time (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11152980). There is also a significant increase in heart attacks on those two days (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23228926).

Daylight Saving is an antiquated system, costing lives and money, and should be ended.
