Daylight Saving Time was created with the idea that it would help conserve energy because of a reduced need of energy to power household lights. However, many studies, including one by the National Bureau of Economic Research, showed that while the extra hour of daylight did decrease energy usage for household lighting, it increased energy usage to power the air conditioner. There was also an additional need for more electricity in the mornings because of the darker mornings. Finally, we do not lose or gain an extra hour because we play with the clocks. There is still 24 hours in a day, everyday.
