Given that Daylight Saving Time is outdated and has measurable negative effects on US citizens, we urge the Obama administration to encourage all states in the Union to cease this semi-annual tradition, following the example of Arizona and Hawaii.
Daylight Saving was first introduced in order to allow for "more" sunlight in the evening hours, to reduce energy consumption through incandescent bulbs. However, with increased usage of air conditioning, the energy benefit is dubious at best. In addition, each shift, forwards or backwards, causes sleep desynchronosis in US citizens. Among other things, car accident and suicide rates increase immediately after a time change, whether forwards or backwards. Adverse effects also spill over into the financial sector, due to increased anxiety.
