Studies show that switching back and forth between standard time and Daylight Saving Time has a negative effect on public safety, health, alertness at work and school, and productivity--with little benefit in the form of energy savings. Many nations across the world have considered either eliminating Daylight Saving Time or making it permanent. A few U.S. states have done this as well. We call upon Congress and the President to evaluate whether eliminating Daylight Saving Time or making it permanent would be the best alternative--but we submit that the status quo needs to change.
