Daylight Savings Time (DST) is an outdated policy with no proven benefit.
According to a March 2013 Rasmussen Report, 45% of Americans surveyed did not think DST was "worth the hassle."
Studies have shown there are no energy savings gained by DST: (1) 2008 National Bureau of Economic Research study in Indiana found that lighting demand dropped but the warmer hour of extra daylight tacked onto each evening led to more AC use, cancelling out the gains from reduced lighting; (2) 2000 study in Australia by environmental economist Hendrik Wolff and colleagues found that while DST lowered lighting and electricity use in the evening, higher energy demands during darker mornings completely canceled out the evening.
There is no good reason to continue DST. Let us keep our hour. End DST now.
