end daylight savings time

Created by K.B. on November 03, 2013

Daylight savings time is an outdated practice that needs to end. There is little evidence that this practice actually saves energy because the energy saved by not using lights in the evening is erased by the increased need for air conditioning in the evenings. Additionally, the time change twice a year is not only annoying and confusing but has been shown to have increased health risks particularly when daylight savings time begins and the nation loses an hour of sleep. The risk of heart attacks increases in the days following the switch and evidence suggests an increase in car accidents following the switch. Additionally, this lost sleep creates chronic sleep deprivation in a large majority of the population because it disrupts natural biological rhythms.
