The US formally instituted DST in 1918 to place work and school schedules within daylight hours to save electricity. Today, lighting accounts for a small amount of energy consumed - savings are minimal.
According to scientists, ending DST will:
1) Save lives: For several days after the spring clock reset traffic accidents, workplace injuries, and heart attacks all increase.
2) Create Jobs: Ending DST will require part-time technicians to confirm that all electronics and computers no longer adjust for DST. These high-skill jobs can lead to higher-paying, long-term employment.
3) Lower healthcare costs: By saving lives and creating jobs we lower healthcare burdens and add tax revenues.
AZ and HI do not observe DST. It is time the rest of the country ends DST observance as well.
