End the Democratic and Republican parties. Insist that all candidates run as Independents with no-party affiliation.

Without political party affiliation candidates will run on their own merits. The voting public will be required to become more educated about their elected officials because they can no longer vote the party line. Perhaps the Congress will be able to work together and pass legislation if they are not being held hostage by their party.
