We request that The Dept. of Education end its 'encouragement' of U.S. colleges to withhold transcripts of students who are in default of Federal loans. The practice promotes a negative trickle-down effect upon most areas of concern to our nation's economy, education, workforce skills, and more.
Many defaults stem from loans given to teenagers without counseling or those who encountered temporarily crippling circumstances. Those who desire restitution can't access transcripts to finish school, acquire new training and/or sufficient wages, so only a small fraction of loans are re-paid. Release transcripts, so citizens can obtain the training and employment necessary to facilitate loan repayment and to make lasting contributions towards the nation's future, as qualified, skilled workers.
