America should not be detaining women & young children in prisons. The US should also not be building--with for-profit corporations--additional prison space for women and children.
They are cold and not provided with adequate clothing. Some need medical attention, but they are denied it.
The prison is in a remote area, making it hard for women to find counsel. There is no explanation of the process or any legal materials. Judges appear via video link, which compounds the confusion. Women have to explain past trauma in front of their children. Bond is set at $30,000, as if they were killers.
These decisions are within the President's authority; there is no need to wait for Congress.
We demand that the government treat migrants with respect. End family detention. No new prisons.
