The United States Military maintains an antiquated and unfair blanket ban against Type 1 diabetic applicants regardless of health or control for initial enlistment or commissioning. This discrimination has been fought and successfully overturned in numerous other branches of government and the private sector. The foreign service has amended their policies against diabetics and now a well controlled diabetic can serve in Iraq in the foreign service but a similarly well controlled diabetic cannot answer phones or perform administrative and clerical duties as a Navy Yeoman in New Jersey. A type 1 diabetic can drive an armored vehicle in a presidential motorcade but cannot become a paralegal in the Army. Please end discrimination prohibiting otherwise able Americans from serving their nation.
