Discrimination runs rampant in today's military. Many discriminatory practices are conducted by individual soldiers, while others written into regulation.
One of these injustices is directed against single service members. Unmarried Soldiers, receive fewer benefits, significantly lower pay, and work longer hours than their married counterparts. This disparity of treatment leads many young service members to enter into contract marriages for the sole purpose of receiving the additional benefits. Depending on rank at duty station, married Soldiers can receive $500-$2000 per month more than single Soldiers.
Non-religious service members are also routinely discriminated against. They are forced into christian rituals during ceremonies, and ordered to seek spiritual guidance during training.
