For decades the FDA has banned any "man who has had sex with another man" from donating blood, indefinitiely. This ban was implemented at the beginning of the HIV/AIDS crisis when science's "best guess" was HIV/AIDS was more easily contracted by men having sex with other men.
However, through scienfitic research, today we know HIV/AIDS is not mutually exclusive, or more susceptible to "men who have sex with other men."
After many years of pressure, the FDA recently announced an anticipated change to the the "Gay Men Ban" by lifting the lifetime ban, and saying all "men who have sex with other men" must be abstinent for 12 months, a full year, before being allowed to donate blood.
We ask the President to push to lift the ban unconditionally, so gay men can donate blood like everyone else.
