The policy of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" has officially been ended, and no longer applies to Defense Dept. GLBT service members are, ostensibly, free to serve as equal members of each branch of the military. Since discrimination in federal employment explicitly forbids discrimination on the basis of protected status, including sexual orientation (EO11478) and sex/sex-stereotyping (ERA, 1964; Title VII), this should mean that GLBT members of the miltary should have the same rights and privileges as hetero members; yet service members have restricted access to equal benefits, support, and social standing in the military community based solely on whether these service members are married to a person of the same gender. We the undersigned request action immediately to resolve this inequality.
