This Administration's treatment of Aaron Swartz stands in sharp and disturbing contrast with the ideals of liberty and justice that is the foundation of America.
Despite the fact that Aaron's only "crime" was to access an unlocked closet, log onto an open network, and run a program to download freely provided articles from JSTOR, this administration abused the rule of law to construe a charge of 13 felonies against Aaron, leading in part to his suicide on January 11th.
JSTOR has since freed these articles for free access, and Carmen Oriz pressed on with the prosecution of Aaron. MIT is engaged in an investigation in how they handled this matter.
As a start, we call for the removal of Carmen Ortiz and Stephen Heymann.
