End the Electoral College

Created by D.L. on November 01, 2012

We urge the administration to begin the process of amending the constitution to end the electoral college.

The EC is an outdated system of electing presidents by state.

This has given us presidents not chosen by the people in 1876, 1888, and 2000. Just as significantly, it produces candidates who pander to "swing states" by taking views that help those states while hurting the nation as a whole.

There are a number of complaints about the EC, each serious enough to warrant an amendment on their own. These include complexity, favoring of less populous states, emphasis on large swing states, discouraged turnout, barring of 3rd parties, irrelevancy of popular vote, and others.

Thus we call on this administration to work to bring democracy back to America by ending the electoral college.
