We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

End the embargo on federal gun research and immediately pass emergency funding to research firearm injuries.

Created by G.M. on June 14, 2016

Since the Dickey Amendment passed in 1996, the US has spent about $240 million a year on traffic safety research, but there has been almost no publicly funded research on firearm injuries. Pres. Barack Obama issued an executive order saying that the director of the CDC “shall conduct or sponsor research into the causes of gun violence and the ways to prevent it."

The CDC is still too scared to act. Congress blocked bills in 2012 & 2013 that would have provided $10 million in funding for the CDC’s gun violence research.

End the embargo on federal gun research and immediately pass emergency funding to research firearm injuries.

This petition is created in loving memory of Christopher Andrew Leinonen and every other fierce queer and ally who lost their lives at Pulse Orlando, June 2016.
