End the fabrication of the U.S PENNY and to allow for profitable melting of pennies for the intrinsic copper value.

This petition wishes to end the fabrication of the United States penny as well as the abrogation of United States code Section 331Title 18 which inhibits the destruction of U.S coins.The purpose of physical fiat currency is to facilitate transactions instead of bartering or arbitrary valuation, unfortunately the United States Penny is no longer an effective medium of exchange. The current value of a penny is too small to actually buy any product or service; therefore no longer has a need. Just as we stopped the fabrication of the half penny in 1857, which at the time had more purchasing power than a 2013 U.S dime, we can do the same with today’s pennies. Many other nations have already enacted this practice and have not scene radical change just an improvement on transaction efficiency
