The FCC's Lifeline Assistance Program needs to end. The Program was initially created in 1985 to assist the elderly and low income families to pay for home phone service. Since then, the program has expanded to include cell phones and now pays 100% of the cost for these phones at tax payer expense with little to no regulation or oversight of this program.
The current price of cellular service is extremely low and can be as little as $10 a month. This program is being abused by the people it was intended to help and is just one of many burdens on the American tax payer and our economy.
There are many prepaid cell phone plans that are available at no cost to tax payers that should be utilized before giving away tax payers money.
