Do not disenfranchise us any longer! 1 of 11 African Americans, 1 in 27 Latino, and 1 in 45 whites will be imprisoned in the United States; 75% of prisoners are eventually released, and never again may they serve on a jury. If we let ex-convicts serve on juries, do you think that double the percentage of blacks would be imprisoned compared with whites? It is not fair to both incarcerate more citizens than any other country, and to continue to keep them alienated from society for their entire lives, by prohibiting them from serving on a jury. There are many problems with our criminal justice system. Only 1 out of 10 accused even receive a trial by jury, but that jury is supposed to be "of their peers". Do you know who are the peers of criminals? Ex-convicts.
