We the People petition the Obama Administration to end the fifty-three year old embargo against Cuba. For the first time in fifty years, Cuban citizens are being allowed to travel abroad without permission from the Cuban government. This move by Raul Castro underscores the irrationality of the United States embargo. Since Fidel Castro left office in 2008, the government of Cuba has had more than 300 economic reforms to encourage enterprise and restrictions have been lifted on people for property use, travel, farming, internet access, and more. These recent events in Cuba show us that the nation is moving in the right direction. According to Forbes Magazine, the embargo costs the U.S. economy about $1.2 to $3.6 billion. This is a HUGE waste of American resources and should be ended.
