End force-feeding of Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

Created by D.R. on July 18, 2013

Some Guantanamo Bay prisoners are on hunger strike to protest their mistreatment and indefinite detention. A majority have already been cleared for release, but have not yet been released. [ NPR: http://goo.gl/VwWtj ]

These non-violent protesters are being force-fed through tubes forced down their noses against their will, a brutal procedure condemned as unethical by the American Medical Association. [ Miami Herald: http://goo.gl/Oja9e ]

On May 23, 2013, President Obama questioned the use of force-feeding, saying, "Is this who we are? ... Our sense of justice is stronger than that. " [ Washington Post: http://goo.gl/D0X5c ] However, he has not yet exercised his authority as commander-in-chief to halt force-feeding.

To President Obama: now is the time to end this shameful abuse.
