On Wednesday 1/23/13 the Virginia state legislature began the process of approving a bill that would redraw the state districts of Virginia in order to give Republican lawmakers an advantage in national elections. This redistricting has a direct effect on the electoral college and the presidency.

This is a process called gerrymandering and it was originally used following reconstruction in the 1870's to reduce the impact of African American votes in the south following the Civil War.
We urge the Obama administration to push for reform that would eliminate this practice and draw congressional district lines in a fair and equitable manner for all people.
