Gerrymandering is a term used when elected officials use redistricting to the advantage of one political party. Usually this involves grouping like minded individuals into the same voting block. However, we have seen abuse of this act by not allowing for equal representation. For example, one district with 100,000 residents will receive 1 house seat while an adjacent district may only have 10,000 residents and will receive the same voting power in the House of Representatives; thereby diluting the voting power of districts with more voters. Examples can be found in many states (both red and blue). This is a bipartisan issue that has been exploited by both republicans and democrats and it must end NOW.
This petition demands that states guarantee that all votes receive equal representation.
