For years, the government has used tax payers money to subsidize the cost of corn. Although corn itself is not unhealthy, once processed, the pure natural form of corn is turned into corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and corn starch. A U.S. interest group called "Apples to Twinkies" found that around $17 billion was spent on those additives, as well as soy oils. On the other hand, only $261 million was spent on subsidizing fruits and vegetables. The government continues to try and support a healthier life style for Americans, but its extremely hard when Uncle Sam always keeps cookies and chips in the cabinet. If we want to change obesity, we need our government to fund a healthier lifestyle for all Americans.
