40% of the U.S. corn corp is currently used to produce ethanol as a result of a $.51 gallon/subsidy to blend it into automotive gasoline to create E85 and as a result of the Renewable Fuel Standard.
-This raises world food prices, causing all of us to pay more for food at the grocercy store, as less land is available to grow food.
-Provides no environmental benefit, as corn requires intensive water and fertilizer use
-E85 damages car engines over time and provides 27% lower fuel economy than gasoline
-U.S. is becoming energy independent through exploitation of oil and natural gas in shale and other tight rock formations, not through ethanol
-Wastes taxpayer funds during a time when fiscal sustainability is of utmost importance
Support of corn based ethanol should cease immediately
