End Government Surveillance of Americans

Created by B.I. on June 07, 2013

We, the signatories of this petition, believe that we represent a majority of Americans in our opposition to official state surveillance of the citizens of the United States of America. We understand that, in response to the terrorist acts committed September 11, 2001, the federal government crafted several legal apparatuses permitting federal security agencies to legally surveil Americans. We hereby call for the end of this practice in all its forms, legal and illegal. The stated purpose of American counter-terrorist policies is the promotion of global democracy and the dismantling of anti-democratic organizations worldwide. We feel the laws that permit widespread intrusion into the private lives of Americans undermine this mission and contradict the rights promised to Americans.
