Four years ago, both President Obama and VA Secretary Shinseki vowed to fix the VA disability claims backlog. Instead, it has increased by 2,000% — and is projected to soon reach one million veterans. A tragic milestone.
More than 40,000 claims have been unprocessed for more than 2 years. There are over 210,000 claims that have been unanswered for more than a year (but less than two).
It is unacceptable to allow bureaucracy and government inefficiency to hinder dedicated military veterans who are entitled to and who have been promised benefits, assistance, and help from their government.
We petition the Obama administration to hire additional, temporary VA employees to process the backlog and help veterans with pending claims that need more documentation.
