The H1-B Visa program was created in the late 1980s to address a shortage of technical workers in the United States. It served this purpose well while it was needed. Unfortunately, we've reached a point where the H1-B worker is no longer simply filling an unmet need; rather, these workers are used as a low-cost substitute for American employees, with the American economy paying the price.
There is no longer a shortage of skilled technical workers in the U.S.; if there were, wages would be increasing drastically, but they are stagnant or falling. This does not happen when there is a shortage of anything.
The H1-B program's continued existence serves only to impoverish our already hurting workforce. It's time to let it die. No American company has a god-given right to cheap imported labor.
