The H1B visa program was designed to fill high tech positions for which there were no suitable domestic candidates. But it has become a self fulfilling prophecy.
It has been perverted to the use of lower-salaried temporary foreign workers for entrance level positions. As a result domestic graduates cannot find that first job. That in turn discourages domestic students from pursuing degrees at great expense for which there are no openings available to them. Abolishing the H1B program will have a positive effect on our long-term viability in high tech industries.
