President Obama has begun to speak out about the dangerous realities of climate change, and he has taken important steps toward confronting and mitigating those dangers. However, he still touts the unprecedented success and scale of domestic oil and natural gas production, under the banner of his "all-of-the-above" energy policy. This is utter hypocrisy: the continued pursuit of the expansion of the fossil fuel industry is simply incompatible with a livable future. "Energy independence" means nothing in the face of a climate that is rapidly spiraling out of control. It's time that President Obama and his administration addresses this hypocrisy, makes a public show of changing his policy, and thereby signals a real shift toward a sustainable, fossil-free future.
