end the indefinite military detention of Americans in the US and protect our right to a trial by jury.

Created by D.B. on November 29, 2012

The National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 allowed for the indefinite military detention of Americans and others. Pres. Obama promised that he would not use the power granted to him by this law; but future presidents might.
The spirit of the law is that those suspected of aiding in terrorism should be placed in military custody, even if they are American citizens. Ambiguity in the wording could lead to abuse.
Due process and trial by jury are fundamental American rights. We must not let fear lead us into giving them away.
There is bipartisan support for amending this act to ban these detentions. Please lend your support by signing this petition.
