Petition to end the IRS' 16 week hold on tax returns to victims of identity theft. Since happening in 2009, each year my family has had to jump through hoops to get our return, though we have proven again and again we are who we are. Holding the money we are due does nothing but hurt innocent victims instead of focusing on the perpetrators who steal identities. This year, a baby girl is coming into our family and that return sure would have helped. The IRS' response was to accuse us of being fraudulent, told me to call my congress person, and then promptly hung up. Why are we the criminals?
