Camp Perry is a National Guard training area in Northern Ohio on Lake Erie and is owned by the state of Ohio. Since 1909, the main impact area for bullets has been the lake itself and spans out several miles into the lake. For over 100 years, lead bullets have accumulated in numbers probably in the billions on the lake floor which has led to an increase in lead contamination. Even today the numbers of lead bullets in the Lake continues to increase. This lake is the 10th largest body of freshwater in the world and is used for fishing, tourism and drinking water by millions of American citizens. This petition seeks to cease the use of this body of water as an impact area for this known toxic substance and to have existing lead removed as best as possible in the name of public safety.
