To help decrease the federal deficit, we the people vote to have all life long benefits, including pensions and healthcare, of government officials to be eliminated. It is not the people's responsibility to support government officials once they are out of office."As of October 1, 2006, 413 retired Members of Congress... 290 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $60,972. A total of 123 Members had retired with service under both CSRS and FERS or with service under FERS only. Their average annual pension was $35,952 in 2006." Congress alone without factoring in new statistics or health care adds up to a resounding $22,103,976 that could be put towards the deficit. Benefits for officials would last for 3 months after their term has ended.
