At a moment when the citizens of the United States find themselves reflecting on the indiscriminate taking of human life, it is important that we contemplate all attacks on civilians -- not only on US citizens. Since at least 2004, and increasingly since President Obama took office, the US has been launching drone attacks in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and other countries resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including at least 176 children in Pakistan alone. Those children were no less innocent than the students at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Their deaths deserve the same reverence and, in Waziristan just as in Newtown, should not be repeated. We call for a complete ban on drone strikes, and particularly on the so-called "double tap" attacks on first responders.
